North Wales Elementary Supports Cancer Research for One of Their Own
A student and friend was diagnosed with brain cancer. Now his school is helping him fight back.
LANSDALE, PA -- The students and staff at North Wales elementary school have quite an exciting and busy day planned for Friday, May 27, the school district announced in a news release.
Throughout the day, North Wales will be hosting its annual Olympic Day in which students compete against one another in athletic events both indoors and outside. But perhaps the most important part of the day will take place at 9:20 a.m., when North Wales holds the opening ceremony.
Throughout Olympic Day, North Wales will be hosting Alex’s Lemonade Stand and also selling “Wristbands for Ryan” for $1.00 which read, “TEAM RYAN – No One Fights Alone," North Penn said.

Ryan is a student at Pennbrook Middle School who attended North Wales Elementary School in his earlier years in the North Penn School District. Ryan also has a younger brother, Eric, who is in 6th grade at North Wales. Unfortunately, Ryan has been diagnosed with brain cancer. North Wales Elementary has been selling gray wristbands in support of Ryan’s courageous battle and will continue to sell them throughout the day on Friday, according to the release.
During the opening ceremony, a photo is scheduled to be taken of the entire school holding up their bracelets to support Ryan. North Wales Elementary will also be unveiling a statue of a whale—North Wales’ mascot—as a new addition to their courtyard. The statue has been generous donated by A. Thayer Smith III of Felber Ornamental as well as Sustain Plaster, Inc., a local nonprofit organization.
