North Wales Man, Korea Vet, Active in Community, Dies at 87

North Wales' James Wetherill was the original Board of Directors of Elm Terrace Gardens.

LANSDALE, PA -- James A. Wetherill, 87, of North Wales, died Sunday, December 11, 2016. He was the husband of the late Lorraine B. Wetherill, who died April 5, 2009.

Born July 31, 1929 in Upper Darby, he was a son of the late George and Leah (Hardwick) Wetherill.

Mr. Wetherill was employed as the Director of Planning with the former Strawbridge & Clothier for many years. After graduating from the Williamson College of the Trades with the Class of 1948, he enlisted in the US Army and served his country honorably during the Korean War.

Jim was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Lansdale, where he sang in the choir and “The Gospel Heirs” and served with the Retreads. He also served on the original Board of Directors of Elm Terrace Gardens.

Jim enjoyed volunteering as a driver with the American Cancer Society.

Survivors include his sons, James A. Wetherill, Jr. (Carol) of Laurel, MD, and David W. Wetherill of North Wales; and two granddaughters, Jaime Foudos (Justin) of Abingdon, MD, and Bethany Wetherill of Ellicott City, MD.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor; and three brothers, George, Edward, and David.

Relatives and friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2016 at First Baptist Church, 700 N. Broad St., Lansdale, PA 19446 followed by the Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.
