Today I am grateful for orange/cream martinis. I was going to pull a fast one and pretend I really meant I was grateful for the actual Dreamsicles of my youth because that martini was a dead ringer anyway, but I decided to come clean. I had the martini.
What a couple of days I’ve had. It seems like everything I touch falls on the floor, spills liquid all over, snaps shut on my finger and/or twists my sore hips, neck, shoulders and attitude. Papers I am working with suddenly blow into the other room. My windshield wipers look like licorice shoelaces and work about as well; the car is buried in yellow pollen crap; and every little kid at the “y” burst into tears at some point today for no apparent reason. I didn’t pinch one of them. I swear. Honest!

I knew I might be a little late for lunch with the girls because of a phone call to a doctor’s office about a bill (Hold please!). I it made when I had plenty of time, but the “holding” ate it up an hour. Then I got behind a woman lounging in the driver’s seat of her car, chit-chatting on the phone, elbow leaning on the window, heady nearly horizontal on her arm, going 5 miles UNDER the posted speed limit. It was like trying to get someplace in a perpetual school zone. I wanted to beep and destroy her nap-chat, but I refrained. Yeah on me.
I was so late I checked my own phone for messages and sure enough, one of the gals had called. At the stop light, I punched in the wrong code (no glasses) to collect messages and couldn’t retrieve, so I just called the last number. Outback was supposed to be open for lunch, but they’re closed because they are having a staff meeting there. Really? “We’ll be open for supper.” We are not going out for supper, we’re going to lunch and now we’re going someplace else! I buzzed around trying to find the cross-over from one shopping mall to the other across a busy street and nothing is marked. Yes, I turned. Yes it was wrong and I had to start over from Go.

No, I did NOT get $200 for passing Go. But I did get an orange/cream martini to go with my soup and salad. Worth every dime. . .and calorie! It reminded me of the Dreamsicles we used to get at Deland Park, after the Fourth of July Parade. . .but better! Oh so much better!
