The 147th is one of the final Republican strongholds in the Philadelphia suburbs and has never been won by a Democrat since its formation in 1969.

Live results will be posted here as they come in to the Montgomery County Board of Elections.

Scheuren, a business owner and former manufacturer's representative, has been in office since 2022. Burke is a political outsider with a Ph.D in molecular pathology.

Numerous senate and state house seats in the western and southern Philadelphia suburbs were still under GOP control until 2018, when the "blue wave" in the middle of President Trump's first term inducted a slew of Democrats at every level of government.

For the most part, the blue grip has only been strengthened in the decade since.

But the 147th has not reflected those changes.

The GOP won the seat by 8,500 votes in 2016. That margin shrunk to 3,700 in 2018, grew to 5,000 in 2022, shrunk again to 3,000 in 2022, and more than doubled to around 7,000 in 2024 when Scheuren beat Al Leach.

For Democrats, anything in the Philadelphia suburbs feels like fair game, and seeing every district to the east and south of the 147th turn blue has surely given them a sense of momentum and fate.

In year that control of both the state senate and legislature are up for grabs, every race that is even remotely close will receive close statewide attention on election night.
