Philadelphia Is The Seventh Most Cursed Sports City In North America

A new study ranking the unluckiest sports towns across the continent placed Philly seventh.

It’s not just in your imagination. Philadelphia is the seventh most cursed sports city in North America, according to a new study by The New York Times’ The Upshot.

The study considers the number of championships that Philadelphia has won since 1965, and compares that to the number of “close calls,” or how often a team made the final four of the playoffs.

An alarming 22 percent of Philadelphia seasons have ended with a final four appearance in the last half century, the study states, but a meager 3 percent have been converted into championships.

Only the 2008 Phillies have won a title since 1984.

The study cites the Flyers 2010 Stanley Cup loss to the Chicago Blackhawks as the city’s most painful.
