Popular Dog Food Lethal to Pets, Class Action Lawsuit Claims

The makers of Purina Beneful dog food call the claims baseless, saying complaints are driven by social media misinformation.

Pet owners have filed a class action lawsuit against the makers of Purina Beneful dog food, alleging the chow sickens and even kills animals.

According to NBC News, the lawsuit was filed in California federal court this month by a pet owner who says his pets became ill from the food and one even died.

A Florida woman has since joined the class-action suit, filed against Nestlé Purina PetCare. The woman told ABC News that since she has been feeding her miniature pinscher Beneful dog food, his health has deteriorated and he began having seizures.

In a statement, the company said there are no quality issues with Beneful. “Beneful is a high quality, nutritious food enjoyed by millions of dogs every day,” the statement said.

It called the complaints about the chow driven by social media misinformation. “ Online postings often contain false, unsupported and misleading allegations that cause undue concern and confusion for our Beneful customers,” the company said in a statement.
