Man Charged With DUI, Homicide By Vehicle In Montgomery Twp. Crash: DA
A Quakertown man has been charged with DUI and homicide by vehicle in a fatal Montgomery Twp. crash in May, the DA announced.

MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP, PA — A Quakertown man has been charged with DUI and homicide by vehicle in a fatal Montgomery Township crash in May, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office announced Tuesday.
David E. Campbell, 50, will also face charges of aggravated assault by vehicle in connection to the May 23 incident, which occurred near the intersection of Richardson Road and Shady Lane.
Campbell was driving north on Richardson Road in his 2005 Ford Van when he struck a Toyota Camry driven by 86-year-old Robert Sykes, the DA's office said. An investigation revealed that Campbell's vehicle struck Sykes' as Sykes was turning left onto Richardson from Shady Lane.

Sykes was pronounced dead later that night at Abington Hospital. His wife, 86-year-old Mary Sykes, was seriously injured but survived, the DA's office said.
Toxicology reports revealed that Campbell had a BAC of .261, and that there there were several controlled substances in his system at the time of the crash, including phenobarbital, nordiazepam (valium), and cocaine.

Campbell was driving between 59 and 62 in a zone where the speed limit is 35 when he struck the Sykes' vehicle, officials said.
Campbell was arraigned on July 20 and released on $50,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for July 27.
