Railroad infrastructure in Montgomery County has received a major boost.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — Railroad infrastructure in Montgomery County has received a major boost.
A $483,000 grant has been awarded to the Pennsylvania Northeastern railroad, to help replace around 6,000 ties on its Stony Creek and Bethlehem branches, officials announced on Tuesday.
“The Pennsylvania Northeastern railroad operates throughout Montgomery, Bucks and Philadelphia counties, so it’s a major contributor to our regional economy,” State Rep. Liz Hanbidge said in a statement.

Hanbidge, who advocated for the funds along with fellow local State Rep. Steve Malagari, said that the funding would both help keep employees safe, and help local communities receive deliveries from the freight lines more efficiently.
"Ensuring the functionality of local freight lines is essential for both our local economy and the prosperity of our community," Malagari added.
