DNA Evidence Used In Hunt For Norristown Gunpoint Rapist: DA

An advanced science is being used to help authorities predict the physical appearance of the suspected rapist using only his DNA.

NORRISTOWN, PA — An advanced science called DNA phenotyping is being used to help authorities hunt down the man who sexually assaulted a 19-year-old runner at gunpoint last summer, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office.

Authorities are using the suspected rapist's DNA to help predict his physical appearance and create an illustration of his face.

Investigators are working closely with Parabon NanoLabs on the case, and hope that it will help provide them with a lead in the incident which occurred over the summer. A press conference providing details on this process has been scheduled for next Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred on Aug. 1 in Norristown Farm Park, at some point between 10:30 a.m. and 10:50 a.m., investigators said. The quiet area has miles of running and hiking trails and is not traditionally a haven for crime.

The suspect, a black male wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, and armed with a handgun, held a gun to the woman while sexually assaulting her, police said. He then fled the scene.
