Shop Small on Saturday

After Black Friday shoppers have brought home there hauls and caught up on sleep, there’s another day of sales and specials that doesn’t require camping out overnight, fighting with other shoppers, or feeding corporations.

The second annual Small Business Saturday, the Saturday after Black Friday, Nov. 26 this year, wants people to “pledge to shop small,” according to the Small Business Saturday website.

"It's a program that encourages people to do shopping for Christmas at small or locally-owned shops, as well as to encourage people to do Christmas shopping locally for services such as cleaning and carpentry," said Lansdale Mayor Andy Szekely about Small Business Saturday at a recent council meeting. "So, instead of buying someone a gift made outside the U.S.A., think about giving someone a certificate for yardwork."

Hosted by American Express, small businesses that register with Small Business Saturday can get free in-store marketing and e-marketing materials, free Facebook ads and more.

When you register your American Express card and use that card to make a purchase of $25 or more at a small business on Small Business Saturday, you’ll receive a one-time $25 statement credit.
