Souderton Archpriest, Known For Mid-Atlantic Missionary Work, Passes Away At 84
Boniface H. Black was married for 56 years.

The Archpriest Boniface H. Black, 84, of Souderton, PA died Sunday, August 7, 2016. He was the husband of Khouriye Joyce Black, his wife of 56 years.
Born November 21, 1931 in Qunicy, IL, he was a son of the late Orin Russell and Mary Louise (Staley) Black.

Father Boniface served Lutheran Churches in Iowa and Pennsylvania before entering Eastern Orthodoxy. He was Pastor of Saint Philip Antiochian Orthodox Church, Souderton from 1978 until 2009 when he became Pastor of the Saint Andrew Antiochian Orthodox Church in Lewes, DE.
Father Boniface was also active in mission work for the Mid-Atlantic Antiochian Orthodox Christian Diocese, having helped start seven congregations in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware, and Maryland.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Jonathan Black and his wife, Mary Lynne, of Perkiomenville, PA, and Anna Mary Vogt and her husband, John, of Yorktown, VA; six grandchildren; and his brother, Paul William Black, M.D.
In Delaware, a viewing will begin 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at St. Andrew Orthodox Church, 33385 MacKenzie Way, Lewes, DE 19958 with Trisagion Prayers beginning at 3:30 p.m.
In Pennsylvania, a viewing will begin 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at St. Philip Orthodox Church, 1970 Clearview Road, Souderton, PA 18964 with a Priestly Funeral beginning at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome.
The Divine Liturgy will begin 9:00 a.m. Thursday, August 11, 2016 at St. Philip Orthodox Church with an additional viewing at 10:30 a.m. The Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. Philip Orthodox Church Cemetery, Souderton.
Arrangements are by the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.
