Souderton Gallery Exhibit Showcases First Featured Artist

SOUDERTON, PA — It has only been a few months since Exhibit B Gallery opened the doors to their cigar factory-turned-art gallery, event space, and home. The gallery has fast become part of downtown Souderton’s active revitalization scene and is thrilled to announce their first Featured Artist: Berdine Leinbach.

Leinbach will feature her original watercolors and limited edition giclées in Making Connections, a show debuting Friday, August 18, 2017, and running through Saturday, September 9, 2017. Leinbach is known for her detailed, yet fluid work of flora and fauna that draws viewers in and evokes tranquility. An established artist, over 140 of Leinbach’s paintings are in collections across the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia.

Leinbach earned her M.Ed. from the University of the Arts in 2015 and is now beginning to synthesize all of her experiences in her studio work, explaining, “Everything I make is more than an imitation of nature. I want it to speak of life and hope. Current events can overwhelm us. We need to focus on ways to connect and build peace, respect, and hope.”

“We knew Berdine's style, and the local subject matter would be a big hit with our customers,” said Exhibit B co-owner Harry Boardman. “We're also excited to host her long-awaited return to showing in galleries.”

Leinbach has strong ties to the Indian Valley. Focusing on creating with her students and collaborating with the community, she guided many projects as a member of the Indian Valley Arts Foundation (IVAF) including mosaics in the children’s reading room at the Indian Valley Public Library and with Souderton’s student group, SAVE; four murals designed by high school students; and helped bring the first public sculpture to Souderton when she and fellow members of the IVAF worked with Souderton Borough to commission a Wayne Trapp sculpture that stands at Main Street Plaza. She also served on Souderton’s 125th-anniversary committee, creating a limited-edition commemorative fraktur and co-editing the photo book, Celebrate Souderton, with her husband, Steve Leinbach of Leinbach Design. In addition, she uses her imagination to create thought-provoking worship visuals at Souderton Mennonite Church.
