Today I am grateful for stone walls that can be breached. We needed to take the afternoon to call Medicare today. And John’s prescription insurance company. And the State of Pennsylvania. Not the entire state, just a section of it. Holy smokes. Do you feel our pain?
When I said we needed to “take the afternoon” little did I know that it would TAKE the whole, entire afternoon. First we call the 800 number and spend 20 minutes on “hold” listening to all of the magnificent things Medicare is doing for us and all of the whoopy-twang stuff they’ll sign us up for if we stop holding and punch 3 on our keypads. Or, as a special service to us we can further do their jobs and go on line ourselves and spend four days looking for answers to our fairly simple questions, which two books we already read. . . which were big enough to list everyone, including pets. . .in all of Manhattan, did not provide.

When a human comes on, Turquoise, (I’m not kidding. That was her for real name.) asks his date of birth, name, social #, address and the color and texture of his last. . .oh never mind. You know the drill. Turquoise suggested she transfer us to another department who could further assist us. I hoped we’d get to talk to Burnt Umber, but I guess she was out today.
We did get some answers, then were told to contact the insurance company, give the same info, then call the state and give the same info, then God, and give the same info. . .oh wait, God already knew John’s name and date of birth!

After punch one and two and one and four and not actually hitting anyone, we did get some answers, so I guess we’re ahead of the game. At one point we both had to look at our names on the cards because we weren’t sure who WE were anymore!
The representatives we spoke with were not rude, which is a good thing, because after over three hours we were blithering idiots. They did help. We did get answers. The unbelievable stone wall was breached. . .if only this once. We’re exhausted. From being hold! Now if only I could find someone to punch!
