Each year, the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution has their annual essay contest for grades 5-8. The Towamencin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is sponsoring the essay contest for any student in grades 5-8.
The 2016 – 2017 essay contest topic is “Celebrating a Century: America's National Parks”. The National Park Service was established by Congress in 1916 and manages approximately 84.4 million acres of national
parks.
This year students will pretend they are writing a journal while visiting one of the 58 national parks. Identify its location. Discuss why and when it was established as a national park. What makes this park one of our
national treasures?
