Teaching Painting

Daily Gratitude

Wednesday, July 8, 2015

Today I am grateful to be teaching painting. No, we aren’t painting a bedroom and I am not trying to re-train John after all these years. I’m talking about painting pictures. Considering I have had very little instruction in how to create a painting, this should be interesting.

I have a very good friend whose teenage granddaughter was supposed to be taking a painting class this week. When they got to the first session, every other person in the class was under seven years old. Not too much fun for her so she didn’t take the class.

When my friend mentioned this to me I sort of jokingly said, “I wouldn’t mind teaching her.” Well guess what. We had our first session today and I had a blast. I hope she did, too, once I got her to loosen up a little she even painted the way you a picture, not a wall! She is doing a fantastic job and is very easy to direct. Since she is also a singer and involved in theater, there was very little silence between us at that kitchen table. Three and a half hours whizzed by.

I’m so glad I am retired so that when a wonderful opportunity, like teaching painting comes up, I am free to do it. Who knows where she’ll go from here. Or me.
