UPDATE: Details Emerge In Violent Social Media Threat Connected To North Penn

LANSDALE, PA -- Police are investigating after a message posted on Instagram threatened violence with a semi-automatic weapon. 

The Principal of Penndale Middle School, Sean O'Sullivan, said in a statement on the North Penn School District website that the message threatened violence at a school but did not specify Penndale or any other North Penn school.

The post, first reported on Tuesday at 11:45 a.m., referenced a "Socom" rifle and "200 rounds of ammunition," according to Lansdale police.

Lansdale police determined that the person who made the threats lives in California and is a juvenile.

Local law enforcement has been in touch with police in California who are resuming the investigation, police said.

The message was brought to the attention of authorities by a student who saw it and reported it. Sullivan "commended" the student for stepping forward.

Classes continued as scheduled on Wednesday morning and planned tests were administered, the school district said.

Additional security teams will be on duty, and Lansdale police will have an extra presence at Penndale to help alleviate any concerns students may have, according to the district.
