TOWAMENCIN, PA — As developers prepare to present their plans for the future of Towamencin Shopping Center, the township has provided an update on what's happening there now.
The old and largely abandoned shopping center at the intersection of Allentown Road and Forty Foot Road is currently serving as a parking site for Amazon vans and employee vehicles.
Since Amazon's massive new facility opened up in the township over the summer, the company has been looking for a place to store vehicles nearby. The township has permitted them to use the lots through Dec. 31.

In addition, Philadelphia Suburban Development Corp., the developer which plans to revitalize the shopping center, has begun landscaping work in the area in accordance with their proposed designs.
Some of the older trees were growing into utility lines, as well as blocking views of nearby businesses, the township said. Developers have a more comprehensive "sustainable landscaping" plan that will be implemented as the full scope of the proposal is rolled out in the coming weeks and months.
