Walk the Plank to Free Treats
One Main Street business offers an incentive to customers willing to brave Lansdale streetscape construction
In front of the businesses along Main Street, there are many signs that assure potential customers that they remain open for business.
Temporary planks connect the stores to the street while construction goes on. This is a frustrating time for those who operate businesses along the strip because it has made it more difficult for patrons to access the stores.
One local business has taken this opportunity to offer a unique special to its customers.

at 322½ West Main Street took to Facebook to announce their “Crossing The Plank” special: Those customers who brave the construction and “walk the plank” into the store will receive a special free treat when you spend $10.
“Your special treat will be lollipops, muffins, scones or cupcakes,” said Rebecca Mason, who works the counter for her mother, owner Regina Mason.

While it is currently a small challenge to enter the cafe from the torn up sidewalk in front of the store,
Virago specializes in vegan and gluten-free pastries, which brings in people from all over the area.
“We have noticed a slow in local traffic, but people travel here for our gluten-free specialties, so they are unaware of the construction going on. That part of our business is still going strong.” added Mason.
Virago will remain open during the construction and will continue their . Virago has been hosting their open mics and showcasing local artist's work on their walls as a way to encourage the sense of community in Lansdale.
According to Mason, the cafe will continue this effort.
“We remain committed to staying open during the construction to offer a 'Family Friendly' nightlife choice in Lansdale,” she said.
Despite the noise, dust and the ever-present construction equipment in front of the store, Mason likes to see the improvements under way.
“I love to see this happening. When the tress are back, the benches are in and the side walks are done, it will greatly improve the look of the street and all of our businesses,” she said.
The construction will add much-needed benches and trashcans, which will greatly improve the look of the town.
“If we want Lansdale to survive, we must support the businesses that are here and make it known that Lansdale is a great place to do business because of our community support,” Mason said.
The Virago special will remain as long as the construction continues.
