West Point Giant Opening Sunday

Giant Food Store will open at Church Road and Sumneytown Pike at 8 a.m. Sunday.

The former Genuardi's location - incorrectly called West Point instead of its real locale in Upper Gwynedd - was closed in June as it underwent a multi-million dollar remodel and update of amenities, according to Chris Band, spokesman for Giant Food Stores.

Other stores that underwent remodeling and are set to open Sunday are located in Huntingdon Valley, Jamison, Kennett Square and West Chester.

Remodeled departments in clude produce, bakery, meat, deli and seafood. 

"It's an exciting time for all of our store teams as we look forward to opening the doors and introducing the Giant shopping experience to each community," said Giant President Rick Herring in a press release. "While all store aisles have been updated with new signage, we've worked hard to keep products in the same general location."

There are special grand opening savings and giveaways on Sunday:

• The first 200 customers receive a 6-pack of Giant-brand English muffins and a Giant reusable shopping bag
• The first 500 customers who check out will receive a free loaf of Sara Lee bread

Giant Food Stores recently acquired 15 supermarkets from Genuardi’s Family Markets, a subsidiary of Safeway Inc. in the greater Philadelphia area.

According to a press release, Giant hired 1,700 associates from Genuardi's. 

Shoppers at the Upper Gwynedd store will be shown how to use the Giant BonusCard, which gives people 10 cents off per gallon of gas for every $100 spent on food or pharmacy purchases.
