16-Year-Old Penndel Boy Dies In Mill Creek Drowning

REPORT: The Neshaminy High student was kayaking in the rain-swollen creek after Wednesday's thunderstorms

PENNDEL, PA — A 16-year-old boy from Penndel has died after falling into a rain-swollen Mill Creek on Wednesday.

The Intelligencer reports that the boy, whom police have not publicly identified, died Thursday morning at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, about five hours after he was pulled from the creek by rescue crews.

Police told the paper the boy, who was kayaking in the creek at about 8:30 p.m. after Wednesday's heavy thunderstorms, was believed to be under water for about five minutes after being dragged under the current near Snowball Drive and Silverspruce Lane.

The teen was originally taken to St. Mary Medical Center, then transported to CHOP.

Middletown police were continuing to investigate the death, including talking to at least one other teen who was with the boy.
