1984 Murder Of Bucks Co. Girl Subject Of National TV Show

The 1984 murder of a Bucks Co. girl that went unsolved for 30 years will be probed in Sunday's episode of "On the Case with Paula Zahn."

The brutal murder of a Bucks County girl that went unsolved for three decades will be the subject of a television show airing nationally this weekend. Sunday's episode of "On the Case with Paula Zahn" will explore the murder of 14-year-old Barbara Rowan in 1984, and the subsequent investigation that led to the conviction of a Florida man in 2017.

George Shaw, 58, is currently serving a 13½ to 27 prison sentence for Rowan's death. Shaw was arrested in Florida in 2015, after police in Bensalem doubled down on their efforts to solve the case.

Rowan was reported missing by her family in Bensalem on Aug. 3, 1984. Her decomposed body was found two weeks later in a wooded area between Rt. 1 North and North River Drive.

The case remained unsolved for years, but in 2015 a man who said he was in Shaw's apartment at the time of the girl's death came forward. Charges were filed against Shaw soon after. Although Shaw was questioned repeatedly by police after the murder, he denied seeing the girl around the time she disappeared.

During his trial last summer, witnesses recounted chilling details about the day Rowan disappeared, including testimony from a young man who knocked on Shaw's door and saw the 14-year-old there.

Timothy Johnson was 18 at the time and looking to buy a used Chevy Nova from Shaw's neighbor the day the girl disappeared. He went to the Nova owner's apartment, which was next to Shaw's unit, and banged on the door. The car owner did not answer. Instead, a young, red-haired girl opened the door of Shaw's unit.

The girl told him her name was Barbara. A "burly, shirtless" man who was "sweating, fidgety and with bulging eyes" appeared almost immediately behind the girl, Johnson said. The man told Johnson the neighbor wasn't home and rushed him away.

The episode airs at 10 p.m. Sunday, July 29 on Investigation Discovery.
