Armstrong Students Observe Breast Cancer Awareness Week
Students will donate proceeds to Susan G. Komen

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Armstrong Middle School staff and students spent the first week of October raising awareness about breast cancer and collecting donations for the cause.
The event kicked-off on October 1, with an assembly. Throughout the week students and staff participated in a ribbon signing and a tape race and also wrote essays. On Friday, the entire student body walked to raise awareness about breast cancer.
Armstrong staff began organizing the Breast Cancer Awareness walks in 2008. Brookside Elementary School also raises money for the cause, which it donates to the Armstrong walk.

The event raised over $1,400 and donations will be accepted until the end of October. Proceeds will be used to honor Ms. Geri Marell, a former teaching assistant who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2007. During an October 30, 2018, pep rally, Armstrong students will present a check to Principal Edward Dayton to donate to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in Ms. Marell’s memory.
