Authorities have identified the man who was shot and killed by police in Bristol Township on Friday afternoon.

Authorities have identified the man who was shot and killed by police in Bristol Township on Friday afternoon. The Bucks County District Attorney's office, which is investigating the incident, has identified the man as Jose D. Gomez Burgos, 29, of Bronx, N.Y.

He was fatally shot on Edgeley Road south of Runway Road after police responded to a call about a car with New York plates that had been sitting on the side of the road for an "extended period of time," the District Attorney's office said.

Authorities determined Burgos was wanted by authorities in New York for a stabbing. When officers arrived on the scene, he allegedly confronted them with a weapon, the District Attorney's office said.

"Multiple" shots were fired by police, striking Burgos, who was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital and pronounced dead.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation by the Bucks County District Attorney and county detectives. This is standard protocol whenever deadly force is used by law enforcement officers, the District Attorney said.
