Bristol Students Honor Teacher Who Died From Breast Cancer

Neil A. Armstrong Middle School students mount "tape race."

Four years since beloved teacher Gerri Morrell died of breast cancer, students and colleagues at Neil A. Armstrong Middle School have not forgotten, according to a news release from Bristol Township School District.

Each year, during the first week of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Armstrong hosts five days of fundraising event with proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

This year, in a novel twist, Armstrong is mounting a “tape race” on Thursday, Oct. 6, pitting the 7th grade against the 8th grade during a lunch period scramble. Kids pay 25 cents for a foot of tape and race to build the longest tape line across cafeteria walls.

There are three lunch periods, with the first starting at 10:51 a.m. and the last ending at 1:15 p.m. Activity is certain to be heaviest during the middle lunch period when both grades overlap at lunch. Winners will be announced at the end of the final lunch period.
