Crews rescued one unconscious resident and seven others self-evacuated, fire officials said.

The Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad had the EMS sector and coordinated the transportation of all eight residents.

Two residents were airlifted to hospitals in the city with another transferred to the city by ground transport. Four remain hospitalized.

"We ask that you keep both families in your prayers and we would like to thank all of our first responder partners for your assistance," fire officials said.

Langhorne resident and author Pat Mervine posted on Facebook that the American Legion Post on W. Richardson Avenue will be open on Sunday from Noon to 5 p.m. to collect cash donations and gift cards to help the victims of this tragedy with immediate needs.

"The houses and vehicles are a total loss. Several pets died in the fire, too," Mervine said. "Heartbreaking and devasting. We should all send heartfelt thanks to the first responders who risked their own lives to save those trapped in the fire, and who prevented it from spreading to neighboring homes. Our thanks, too, to the Legion for organizing support for the families. This is what a caring community looks like."
