Lee Road Students Learn The Rules Of Recycling
Students at Lee Road Elementary School learned about the importance of recycling and how to help the environment on Dec. 10.

Students at Lee Road Elementary School learned about the importance of recycling and how to help the environment on Dec. 10 with Danielle Annarella, recycling coordinator for the Town of Hempstead. Ms. Annarella presented to students in grades K-5 about what recycling means, how to do it at home, why it is important, what items can be recycled and what happens to them in the recycling process.

Lee Road students listened intently has Ms. Annarella explained her job working in the Town of Hempstead's sanitation department. They learned the meaning of reduce, reuse and recycle and how trash is converted into energy. Ms. Annarella also showed the classes photos of where recyclables go and how they are made into new things. At the front of the room, items such as notebooks, rulers, a basket and hat were on display. Each of these objects were made from recyclable materials. The presentation inspired the students to make a difference in their community and world.
