SWATARA, PA — A lawmaker who represents much of the Levittown area in the state legislature is next due in court in August after being arrested on DUI charges at a McDonald's near Harrisburg.

State Rep. John Galloway, D-Falls Township, waived his right to a preliminary hearing in the case earlier this month.

On May 14, police in Swatara — which is just south of Harrisburg — say, officers were dispatched to a McDonald's there, where Galloway had struck another vehicle in the drive-through.

He was released on $1,000 bail and his case was transferred to the Court of Common Pleas on June 6, according to Dauphin County court records.

It was Galloway's second DUI arrest after one in 2011 in Harrisburg.

Galloway took office in 2006 and was re-elected without opposition last year. His district covers Bristol Borough, Falls Township and Tullytown and parts Bristol Township, Middletown and Morrisville.

In a statement last month, Galloway said he would seek treatment for alcohol use.

"I recognize that I have a problem. I should have recognized the problem the first time," he said in the prepared statement. "I will seek treatment and will enter a rehab program as soon as possible. There are no excuses here. I apologize to my family and friends and to everyone in Bucks County who I am honored to represent. I will accept the consequences."

Swatara Police say the incident happened at 11:52 p.m.
