Now in its 20th year, the four-week program offers reading and math review/remediation for second through sixth grade students in the Levittown Public Schools. Eighty students enrolled in the program this summer and attended one of two morning sessions to build their skills in preparation for the 2019-2020 school year.

Supervisors/teachers Kristy Quinlan and Janet Jakubowski were instrumental in implementing and overseeing the program. Each week the students received instruction in small group settings from highly qualified tutors and were engaged in the Summer Success curriculum which included reading, writing and math activities. The students also utilized the computer based I-Ready Program for additional practice and assessments in reading and math which helped the tutors and supervisors monitor their progress.

In addition, students were encouraged to independently read books during the program and select from a variety of writing activities to culminate their reading. An incentive program was put into action to help motivate students to read as many books as possible throughout the program. The student who read the most books at the end of the program was awarded a gift card to Friendly's.
