FALLS TOWNSHIP, PA — A man accused of killing a toddler last year in Falls Township is back in Bucks County custody.

Shawn Robert Felmey, 45, was arrested May 15 in Melbourne, Florida. He was arraigned by video Thursday in Bucks County court on charges of criminal homicide and endangering the welfare of children and ordered to be held at Bucks County Correctional Facility without bail.

The 22-month-old boy was found dead of head trauma on Dec. 18 inside an apartment at the Commons at Fallsington.

Felmey returned home from work at around 2:30 a.m. that morning, and initially lied to police, saying that he did not go into the basement where the boy and his 7-year-old sister were sleeping when he came home, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Felmey later changed his story, police said. He admitted going into the basement, but said he didn't check on the boy. He then said that it was "possible" he interacted with the boy while downstairs, the affidavit states.

Felmey then told police the toddler could have fallen from his arms and onto the floor while he changed his diaper, but he didn't remember. According to the medical examiner, the boy was "either thrown or swung" with "substantial force" onto the floor.

Other evidence that led authorities to suspect Felmey included witnesses who said they saw Felmey handling the toddler in a rough manner, as well as unexplained bruises showing up on the boy in the weeks leading up to his death, according to the criminal complaint.

Also, the next morning, Fulmey did not help get the boy's sister ready for school like he normally would, police said.

Fulmey called police at 11 a.m. that day, when he said he discovered the toddler's injuries.

A preliminary hearing in the case is set for June 11.
