Man Stabs Woman, Holds Her Mother Hostage In Bristol: Police

Police say a nearly three-hour police standoff followed officers arriving to find a man screaming and threatening his victim.

BRISTOL BOROUGH, PA — A man was arrested in Bristol Borough Monday evening after police say he stabbed a woman then took her mother hostage, leading to a police standoff.

Officers were called to the 300 block of Cedar Street at about 3:18 p.m., police Chief Steven Henry said in a news release. The 30-year-old woman who had been stabbed already had escaped with her two sons, ages 8 and 9, the release said.

She had been stabbed in the chest, according to the release, and told the police that the suspect was Michel Chesnes, 38, her mother's boyfriend.

When they arrived, officers discovered a man later identified as Chesnes screaming from a second-floor window and waving a knife. He made threats against the 47-year-old woman, who was in the bedroom with him, police said.

Police began nearly two hours of negotiations at that point. At about 5:10 p.m., Henry said, "the situation began to deteriorate" and Bucks County South Regional SWAT team members, who had been called to the scene, went into the home.

The SWAT members found Chesnes holding the woman. They were able to free her, but Chesnes struggled with officers, who eventually used a Taser on him, according to the release.

Medics examined the woman, but she did not appear to be injured. Her daughter was treated at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital for a stab wound.

Chesnes was arraigned on multiple charges, including attempted murder and kidnapping. His bail was set at $9 million and he is being held at Bucks County Prison, police said.
