Man Tries To Steal Car With Child Inside In Falls Twp: Police

A 31-year-old man has been charged with trying to steal a car with a child inside as the mother fueled up at a Falls Township gas station.

A man has been charged with attempting to steal a car with a child sitting inside as the mother fueled up at a Bucks County gas station Wednesday morning.

The unidentified woman stopped at the Sunoco on New Falls and Penn Valley roads in Falls Township on the way to her son's doctor's appointment, she told 6ABC.

A man, later identified as Donald Wayne Darnell Jr., entered the car through the driver's side, and she approached him. A struggle ensued and the suspect fled. He was later located at a nearby drug recovery house, 6ABC reported.

CBS Philly reports a police chase occurred as authorities attempted to take him into custody and he was hospitalized for injuries sustained during his arrest.

Court records show Darnell, 31, of Levittown was arraigned Wednesday on charges of robbery of a motor vehicle, theft by unlawful taking, and reckless endangerment.

Bail was set at 10 percent of $200,000. Darnell was unable to post bail and remains at Bucks County prison awaiting a June 12 preliminary hearing.
