Medical Marijuana Dispensary To Open In Bristol

A Bristol business has been granted a medical marijuana dispensary permit. The local permit was issued Thursday to Franklin Bioscience-Penn, LLC operating as Bristol Dispensary.

It was one of 27 permits granted by the state Department of Health on Thursday. The permittees will now have six months to become operational before they can begin dispensing medical marijuana, according to officials.

Each of the 27 dispensary permit holders will be allowed to open a total of three locations, the state said. Some dispensary permit holders have opted not to open all eligible locations immediately, officials said.

Eventually, there will be a total of 52 dispensaries located throughout Pennsylvania.

Last week, the state issued the first permits to companies for growing and processing medical marijuana. A total of 12 permits were issued to companies across the state that will grow marijuana and process it into pill and oil forms.

Officials say so far it has been a "highly competitive process" with the Department of Health receiving hundreds of applications.

“Once this program is fully operational, patients with serious medical conditions will have locations throughout the commonwealth where they can purchase medication to help in their treatment. We remain on track to provide medication to patients in 2018," said John Collins, director of the state's Office of Medical Marijuana.
