Middletown Police Investigating Death Of Elderly Couple

Authorities said are probing the death of an elderly Center Street couple who were discovered that way Monday morning.

An elderly Middletown couple who were found dead Monday morning are believed to have died from carbon-monoxide poisoning, authorities said.

The bodies of Charles Hoez, 92, and his wife, Jeanne Hoez, 90, were found in their bedroom at 1167 Center Street this morning, according to First Assistant District Attorney Michelle Henry.

"At this time the investigation is ongoing, but it does appear couple's death was self-inflicted," Henry said.

Henry said, the couple was discovered by their son, who came by to check on them.

When the son arrived, he found the couple's minivan parked on the side of the older two-story home. The van was running and had a pipe or hose running from the exhaust pipe into the couples bedroom, neighbors and authorities told Patch.

The minivan was taken by police shortly after the bodies were discovered, a neighbor said.

The bodies of the couple were taken from the home by the county coroner. As of Monday evening, no official cause of death has been ruled.

A resident of Center Street, who did not wish to be named, said she was shocked and saddened when she heard that her elderly neighbors were found dead.

Patch will have more on this story as it becomes available.
