Mock Crash Video Shows DUI Dangers at Truman High
In light of prom season, the school has created a video to help students make good choices about drinking and driving.

While many prepare to take their dates to prom, Harry S. Truman High School is hoping that students won’t be taking anyone to the morgue on their way back.
The school’s Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) organization staged a mock car crash to showcase the damaging consequences that can come from drinking and driving. They then spent the last two days putting together a video that not only shows the crash, but also its aftereffects.
During the accident, students dressed for prom emerge from their car battered and bloody. Girls in the back seat of one car scream out for help while the driver of the other emerges stumbling to try and help his dying friend.

The video includes participation from actual police officers. Scenes taking place at a hospital where a girl’s family is told she won’t make it (and was not even drinking) and of a DUI culprit in a holding cell and court are chilling, especially given their young age.
“I hope those drinks were worth it,” a judge asks the supposed drunk driver in the video. “What, two lives and the rest of your life?”
