Mom’s Belief that OB/GYN Ultrasounds Should be Celebrated Gives Birth to Yardley Business
Look At Me Mommy provides a personalized ultrasound experience in an upscale Yardley studio.
Yardley, PA…Years before they were born, Melissa Brooks’ three children were the inspiration for her Yardley ultrasound studio, Look At Me Mommy. Struggling with infertility, Brooks was working as a board-certified OB/GYN ultrasound technician at Doylestown Hospital, where she spent her days helping expectant moms decipher their baby’s images and gender.
What should have been a joyous moment for these moms seemed so process-oriented and dispassionate in a hospital setting, recalled Brooks. “Learning you’re expecting a new baby is such a huge family moment,” said Brooks, who finally got her wish to become pregnant following three years of infertility treatments. “It seemed to me that the ultrasound experience should be a celebration, perhaps even a party, in a welcoming and comfortable setting surrounded by family,” she said. That’s when her business idea was conceived, and Look At Me Mommy was born this past autumn.
Look At Me Mommy provides a personalized ultrasound experience in an upscale Yardley studio. Options range from 2D ultrasounds at 10 weeks or 16 weeks (when sex can be determined), to 3D and 4D video sessions, which occur during weeks 24 and 40 and show much more pronounced features over time of the baby’s face, hands, feet, body and organs.

The studio provides a spacious and welcoming setting for multiple family members to tag along, and two 50-inch TV screens enable them to enjoy the baby’s in utero antics without hovering over mom. “Family members say, look, she looks like daddy! Then all the happy tears flow,” says Brooks. “Many families take home a video and watch the baby laugh and yawn again and again. We try to make the whole experience wonderful.”
The state-of-the-art ultrasound technology and spacious studio space has resulted in “Look At Me Mommy’s” most notable offering – the hosting of “Reveal Parties” for 50 guests who gather together to learn whether the baby is a boy or a girl.

“The party is like the baby shower before the baby shower,” explains Brooks, who arranges catering, trivia, music and pink and blue decorations. The big “reveal” comes during the ultrasound. One mom had guests blow up pink and blue balloons, with only the pink ones expanding to reveal that she was carrying a girl.
When not planning reveal parties, Brooks spends her days, nights and weekends performing 3D/4D ultrasounds by appointment. Since hospitals only provide a maximum of two 2D ultrasounds, purely for diagnostic purposes, Bucks County moms have found that Look At Me Mommy has filled the void of what feels like an endless wait until delivery. For expectant mom Jessica Thorton of Langhorne, evening visits to Look At Me Mommy for an ultrasound has become a bonding experience for her and her fiancé, Richard Christine. “We spend an hour here and get to learn more about the baby then we ever would during a hospital ultrasound. We see her yawn and hiccup, we note the hair on her head. We love these visits,” said Thorton who is due on June 8.
Brooks understand their enthusiasm. Now the mom of a 7-year-old, a 10-year-old, and a 12-year-old, she gets to relive the wonder of discovery daily. “We bring families together to witness their own special miracles every day. I could not imagine a better career,” she said.
