Morrisville Municipal Authority Receives RACP Award

Funds will be used for a new wastewater treatment facility.

A $1 million state Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant will cover a portion of the costs of the initial infrastructure improvements needed to support construction of a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment facility.

The existing facility, which is located in Morrisville, serves about 40,000 customers, including most of Lower Makefield Township, all of Morrisville and Yardley boroughs and a portion of Falls Township.

The grant will help fund the costs of design, bidding and construction of a pump station and infrastructure conveyance system, including installation of a 30-inch force main, a 42-inch gravity main and road restoration. It is an integral component to a new wastewater treatment facility to be constructed nearby.

Representative Perry Warren (D-31) strongly encouraged and supported the Authority’s RACP application. He toured the current wastewater treatment facility in May and recognized the need for infrastructure improvements.

“The plant upgrades will help protect natural resources and save ratepayer money,” said Warren. “It’s a prime example of the critical role that infrastructure plays in advancing public health, and improving it will positively affect thousands of people here in our communities.”

The infrastructure installation and subsequent wastewater treatment plant construction will support up to 100 skilled trades jobs for the next several years with permanent employment of approximately 15 licensed treatment operators upon completion.

Morrisville Municipal Authority Executive Director John Warenda expressed his appreciation for the time and effort of Rep. Warren, Rep. John Galloway (D-140), as well as Governor Tom Wolf, in funding a project that literally lays the groundwork for a much-needed wastewater treatment facility.

“This grant helps to address very serious infrastructure needs of our participating communities,” Warenda said. “Thanks to the state’s support, the Morrisville Municipal Authority will turn a vacant brownfield into a greenfield.”
