The Pennsbury High School music theater student’s performed their Spring Musical The Mikado this past weekend.
"Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado was born out of the late 19th Century rage for all things Japanese. Our contemporary production pays homage to the original while exploring current trends in Japanese comics and fashions," Director Jason Vodicka’s said.
Vodicka also said, "Though the operetta is set in Japan, the music and humor are quintessentially British. While poking fun at British society members, The Mikado remains respectfully of (if not slightly ignorant of), traditional Japanese culture. Our version lovingly pokes fun at notable members of our society. This use of contemporary references is a tradition that dates back to Gilbert and Sullivan’s own productions."

The production included a little audience participation and there was laughter heard all through the performance as the actor’s picked on political figures, celebrities and made reference to local areas.
The performance was perfection, was well received and truly appreciated by all that attended. This was very noticeable by the smiles that were clearly visible during the musical.
