Pennsbury Plaza Shopping Center Upgrades Planned

FALLS TOWNSHIP, PA —The Pennsbury Plaza shopping center —which is split between Morrisville and Falls Township —will be receiving some upgrades.

After Morrisville Borough officials signed off on improvements, Falls Township Supervisors did so as well at their meeting Monday night.

As part of the upgrades, a portion of the shopping center would be demolished to make way for a 10,500-square-foot Dollar Tree store at the site of the former Pennsbury Movie Theater.

While plans call for an additional 1,900 square feet of retail space, the developer intends to reduce the impervious surface, officials said.

Meanwhile, Falls supervisors also set the wheels in motion for two other land development projects that will bring new jobs, and provide a lifeline to a local organization.

The board granted preliminary and final land development approval to Gelest to construct a 28,875-square-foot manufacturing building and a 7,000-square-foot support building on the company’s 12.80-acre lot, which is situated at 11 Steel Road East.

Gelest attorney Mike Meginnis said the additions would create 26 new jobs.

In other business, the board granted preliminary and final land development approval to Britton Realty Morrisville, LLC, for a joint project that would help keep the struggling Elks Lodge viable.

As part of the arrangement with the Elks Lodge, Britton would occupy and lease back the front portion of the Elks Lodge for $1, which would enable the Elks to remain. Britton would use the rest of the space as a storage space for equipment.

Britton would install a privacy fence and add a handicap-accessible parking space.

“It sounds like a great thing for the Elks,” Supervisor Brian Galloway said.
