Person Struck By Amtrak Train In Levittown

A person trespassing on the track was hit Monday, according to Amtrak.

LEVITTOWN, PA — A person was struck by a train Monday in Levittown, according to Amtrak.

The incident occurred about 9:30 a.m. when the person, who was trespassing on the track, made contact with Amtrak Train 185, which was traveling from New York to Norfolk, Virginia, the rail service said.

Amtrak did not clarify whether the crash was fatal or the extent of the injuries suffered by the person who was struck, but the rail service did note that trespassing along a right of way is the leading cause of rail-related deaths in the U.S. There were no known injuries among the passengers or crew, according to Amtrak.

Train 185 was stopped for more than three hours before it was canceled and customers were asked to take the next available train, the rail service tweeted. SEPTA trains bypassed Levittown from about 10 a.m. to roughly 4:30 p.m., according to SEPTA's Twitter account.

Amtrak is working with local law enforcement to investigate the incident.
