Philly Man Charged In Blaze That Injured Croydon Fire Captain

Bristol Township Police said the man faces numerous charges for the early November fire on Cedar Avenue.

BRISTOL TOWNSHIP, PA —A Philadelphia man has been charged in connection with a fire that injured a Croydon Fire Company captain in November, police said.

Shayne Holland, 26, of Philadelphia, was arrested last week on charges of arson, aggravated arson, arson, reckless burning, criminal mischief, possession of explosive/incendiary material, and disorderly conduct., Lt. Sean Cosgrove said.

"He had been a suspect for quite a while," Cosgrove told Patch Monday.

Holland was arraigned and is being held on 10 percent of $250,000 bail, Cosgrove said.

In early November, a fire was intentionally set at the Bucks County Carpet Outlet on Cedar Avenue, fire officials said.

The captain, who was not named, was in the attic battling the fire when the attic floor suddenly collapsed causing him to fall to the concrete floor below, Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said at that time.

Two apartments on the 2nd floor of the attached building were occupied and had to be evacuated, Dippolito said. He said that both apartments had minor smoke damage.

Dippolito reviewed security video from businesses and homes in the vicinity of State Road and Cedar Avenue, which led to the charges.
