Quaker Penn Park To Get Cameras For Safety

Once basically a glorified boat ramp, the site is becoming a true community park with recent upgrades, Falls supervisors say.

FALLS TOWNSHIP, PA — Supervisors in Falls Township are hoping new security cameras will make visitors feel more comfortable, and safer, at Quaker Penn Park.

Last week, Falls Township Supervisors approved plans to add the cameras at the park, at 350 Pennsbury Memorial Rd. The decision to advertise for the work comes on the heels of supervisors recently installing six street lights and six parking lot lights at the park.

The cameras would be placed at the park's entrance, where they'd be able to record the license plates of visitors, and throughout the park. Supervisors also plan to add access to electricity for visitors.

"We have a lot of people who do use the park and they don’t feel very secure," township Public Works Director Jason Lawson said. "Hopefully they’ll feel more secure and use it more."

Recently, the township added a swing set, playground, picnic tables and three compost toilet facilities at Quaker Penn Park, hoping to turn it into a full-fledged community park as opposed to simply a spot for its popular boat ramp onto the Delaware River.

Supervisors say 75 percent of the project costs are being covered by a Bucks County open-space grant.
