SCORE Bucks County Elects New Chairman
SCORE mentor David Boster will serve through Sept. 30, 2020.

Volunteers of SCORE Bucks County, the local chapter of the national nonprofit business mentoring organization, recently elected a new chairman.
David Boster, of Langhorne, recently transitioned into the role of chairman. He replaces co-chairs Ray Valukonis and Erwin Michelfelder. Boster’s two-year term continues through Sept. 30, 2020.
Boster joined SCORE Bucks County three years ago. In addition to mentoring small business owners and entrepreneurs, he had also previously served as chairman of the chapter’s seminar committee. Assuming the role of chairman of the chapter is admittedly a big step, but Boster already has objectives in mind.

Recognizing the need for mentors to have commonalities with local business people seeking mentoring, Boster said he would like to see the chapter continue its goal of broadening its base of female mentors, as well as bringing more diversity to the existing membership pool. SCORE locally has been working to recruit more women mentors, in particular.
Once an organization primarily comprised of retired executives, today’s SCORE Bucks County has approximately 50 members of all ages, including a growing number of mentors in the work force or running their own businesses.

“We now have more people who work and more people who are younger with a desire to mentor,” Boster said, adding that he welcomes all to be a part of the organization.
In order to keep up with the digital age as it relates to business, Boster said the chapter will offer a new digital marketing series beginning in September. Topics include Facebook, LinkedIn, Websites and other digital outlets.
The chapter will continue its popular starting a business; and running a business workshops.
Webinars remain a favorite among SCORE clients. Various one-hour Webinars are planned for the remainder of the year, Boster said. Finding subject matter to discuss is easy, he said.
“We just come up with ideas based on conversations with clients,” Boster said. “The challenging part is sometimes finding people to deliver the Webinar.”
A native of Harrisburg, Boster received a master’s degree in biology from Bloomsburg University. He worked for 35 years in the biotech industry, primarily on the sales and marketing side. His career has prepared him for his ongoing volunteer role with SCORE.
“I’ve acquired a lot of experience and knowledge,” Boster said. “What better way to utilize that then to give back to people?”
