St. Mary Medical Receives Award For Organ Donations

The annual award is given to hospitals with superior performance in organ donation.

LANGHORNE, PA — St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne recently received an award for its work in promoting and encouraging organ donation.

The Gift of Life Donor Program and the Hospital Association of Pennsylvania Southeast Connect recently presented St. Mary with the 2018 Gift of Life Award. The annual award is given to hospitals with superior performance in organ donation that have either achieved a 75 percent organ donation conversion rate during the past year, or that have dramatically improved their performance compared to the previous year.

St. Mary was also recognized for achieving a 100 percent patient referral rate for Gift of Life.

The Gift of Life Donor program is a non-profit, federally-designated organ procurement organization that serves 11.2 million people across the eastern half of Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware. Its annual donation rate ranks among the highest in the world and, since 1974, Gift of Life has coordinated more than 46,000 life-saving organs for transplant, and approximately one million tissue transplants have resulted from the generosity of donors and their families.
