State Teacher Of The Year Finalist From Pennsbury School District

FALLSINGTON, PA —A Pennsbury School District teacher was named as a finalist for Pennsylvania's 2023 Teacher of the Year Program.

Afton Elementary School SPARK teacher Kristin Slota was among 12 teachers from across the state recently honored at the Pennsylvania Department of Education/Standards Aligned System (PDE/SSA) annual conference in Hershey on Dec. 5.

Slota has been with the Pennsbury School District for 24 years.

She was instrumental in launching the SPARK program at Afton in the 2010-20 school year.

Mrs. Slota was joined at the PDE/SSA conference by Schools Superintendent Thomas Smith, Michele Spack, director of elementary education, and Maria Gregory, former interim Afton Principal and current Walt Disney principal.

In other school district news:

• The school board recently held its reorganization meeting. TR Kannan was named president and Gary Sanderson was named vice president for another year. Both were voted unanimously. Linda Palsky was named assistant secretary in a unanimous vote.
• Pennsbury Football Coach Galen Snyder was named The Bucks County Courier Times/Intelligencer Coach of the Year. Snyder led the Falcons to a 9-2 record and playoff berth after snapping a 17-game losing streak.
• The Harlem Wizards played in front of a sold-out crowd last night at Charles Boehm Middle School, presented by NorthPoint Development More than $27,000 was raised for the Pennsbury Education Foundation.
