Teenager Leads Falls Twp. Police On High-Speed Chase

FALLS TOWNSHIP, PA —A high-speed chase that led a suspect to drive into New Jersey eventually led to charges after the teenager fled on foot, resisted arrest, and got into an altercation with officers, police said.

Anthony Deems, 19, of Levittown, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, eluding police, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, evading arrest on foot, trespass by motor vehicle, reckless driving, and failing to have a driver's license or driving a vehicle at a safe speed.

Falls Township Police said that they received notification of a stolen license plate coming northbound on Route 13 from Green Lane on Friday.

Police identified that the vehicle was involved in another pursuit in Falls Township, a court affidavit states.

Police headed toward the intersection of Route 13 and Levittown Parkway and spotted a blue Nissan 350Z, displaying the registration and reported as stolen.

According to court records, the vehicle began traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of Mill Creek Road. The vehicle got off Penn Valley Road and then got right back onto Route 13 northbound at Penn Valley Road.

The vehicle then turned all its lights off and started to travel at an unsafe speed on Route
13 northbound toward Route 1.

Police gave chase, but the vehicle failed to stop and continued northbound, nearly striking a tractor-trailer semi as it got onto Route 1 northbound.

The vehicle then traveled into New Jersey via Route 1 northbound, where the police pursuit was discontinued.

At 8:41 p.m. Friday, police spotted the vehicle at 67 Nearwood Drive. Police identified the driver as Anthony Deems and blocked the driveway.

Police approached the driver's side when the vehicle was put into reverse, almost striking a police officer and nearly knocking over another officer.

Deems then fled into a neighbor's front yard and onto Nearwood Drive and left without headlights again.

Three minutes later, another police squad spotted the vehicle traveling northbound on Route
13 at Tyburn Road.

Police began another pursuit on northbound Route 13 where Deems crashed the vehicle into a guardrail near Lower Morrisville Road and fled on foot from two police officers, court records state.

Deems then got into a physical altercation with officers as he resisted arrest and was eventually taken into custody.
