Tossed Cigarette Causes Bristol Twp. Fire

The fire happened at the same time other crews were fighting a blaze at Keystone Industrial Park.

BRISTOL TOWNSHIP, PA — A cigarette tossed into a cardboard box caused a fire at a home in Bristol Township late Friday night.

Firefighters were sent at 11:25 p.m. to the 900 block of Emily Avenue in Bristol after a neighbor saw fire and called 911. They found a fire burning on the home's back porch.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze and the residents, who were home at the time, were not injured, said Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito. Dippolito determined the cause of the fire was the discarded cigarette.

He said the fire happened while most Bristol Township fire companies were on the scene of another fire in the Keystone Industrial Park. That fire involved a bathroom exhaust fan, Dippolito said.

Fire companies at the house fire were Croydon, Edgely, Goodwill Hose, Union, Corwells, Eddington, Bristol Consolidated, Bristol No. 6 as well as Bucks County Rescue Squad, Bristol Township Police and fire police.
