FALLS TOWNSHIP, PA —A tractor-trailer carrying garbage overturned in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning, police said.

The Falls Township Police Department said that at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, Traffic Safety Unit Sgt. Raymond Fanelli investigated a two-vehicle traffic accident involving an overturned tractor-trailer carrying household garbage.

The preliminary investigation determined that a tractor-trailer driven by a 41-year-old Massachusetts man was hauling non-hazardous waste from New York to the Fairless Hills landfill.

The driver failed to make a right turn from Tyburn Road onto New Ford Mill Road, causing the truck to overturn onto its driver’s side.

The vehicle then slid across the roadway, striking the front of a Ford F550 driven by a 31-year-old man from Norristown, PA, who was stopped at a traffic light.

Although initial reports indicated entrapment, the tractor-trailer driver was able to exit the vehicle on his own.

Neither driver sustained any injuries and alcohol, drugs or a medical emergency are not believed to be factors in causation.

Rob’s Towing used specialized equipment, including heavy-duty tow trucks, front-end loaders, and garbage bins, to upright the vehicle and clean up the spilled cargo.

This process required partial and full closures of New Ford Mill Road and neighboring police
jurisdictions were notified about potential traffic overflow.

An inspection of the vehicle resulted in several citations for both the driver and the motor carrier, including a violation of Title 75, Section 1606, which mandates that drivers of commercial motor vehicles hold a commercial driver’s license.
