Truman's Tiger Tuff Lindsay Ziegler Makes The Grade!

Patch's student spotlight of exceptional overall performance

Just about every high school in America has some students that are a gifted athletes; usually many more have students that excel academically.

It’s when some one possesses a combination of both that makes a special combination of athleticism and diligence, which warrants highlighting them in a student spotlight piece.

Such is the case for Harry S. Truman High School senior Lindsay Ziegler, who laces up her cleats for the Lady Tigers and first year coach Cosmo DiLiegro, but also has been known to keep DiLiegro on his toes in the classroom with her "creative designs" in his engineering class.

"Lindsay is one of those special kids," DiLiegro said. "She is a monster on the field. Her tenacity is unbeatable, but she also attacks her school work in the same fashion."

On Monday, Ziegler scored the game inning goal in a SOL battle with Norristown, but it is her role as a defender, which she cherishes and challenges herself that sets her apart.

"I love racing the kids to the ball," Ziegler said. "It’s like a personal challenge. They look at me, I look at them and it’s like, 'OK, beat me to the ball.' I have played soccer since I was a little girl at five years old playing CYO and I just love it."

In a world where there a host of distractions that can derail even the most motivated of teen, it’s astounding that Ziegler, who excels in the classroom, can remain so focused and a be such a vocal leader on her soccer squad whether it’s for the Tigers or her club team in Neshaminy the Humeville Soccer Club.

"I have Lindsay in two of my classes," added DiLiegro. "I am so impressed by her willingness to open her mind and look at things differently. I see great creativity in her designs and she is such an original thinker. It is part of what makes her so successful."

As Ziegler and her fellow seniors lead the way for Truman this season, win or lose, it’s obvious to even the casual observer that the only one that can stop No. 6 from reaching great heights on and off the field is she.

"I love this team," Ziegler said. "But soccer is much more than that. We are all friends and support each other in anything we do, that is the coolest part about being on a team. It’s like I have a second family. It’s so much fun."
