Tullytown Landfill Must Close in 2017, DEP Decides

All waste disposal operations must cease on or before May 22, 2017, the DEP said. At that time, the landfill will be closed and capped.

The Tullytown Landfill must close in two years, the Department of Environmental Protection announced Thursday .

“After a complete review of the renewal application and consideration of public input, we concluded that a balance had to be reached to allow disposal operations to continue, but for a limited amount of time so that the landfill could close in a structurally sound and environmentally safe manner,” DEP Southeast Regional Director Cosmo Servidio said

Public concerns regarding ongoing odor, noise, bird and aesthetic nuisances, primarily from New Jersey residents, prompted the decision to close the landfill, the DEP said.

The Tullytown Landfill is located along the Delaware River, directly across from Florence, N.J.
