VFW Presents Retired Falls Cop, Firefighter with National Awards

Awards were presented during Monday's Falls Township Board of Supervisors meeting.

Two Falls Township emergency services officials bested nominees nationwide to receive honors from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Monday night.

VFW officials recognized retired Falls Township Police officer John Yeager and Levittown Fire Co. #1 firefighter Brian Huber. Both received national honors. Huber received a national firefighter of the year award.

“This award is not given to everybody,” the VFW representative said before honoring Yeager and Huber.

The honorees were chosen from a pool of candidates of the state's 425 VFW posts. Levittown VFW Post 6495 nominated Yeager and Huber. From there, nominations were forwarded to the state's 25 districts for affirmation before being considered nationally.

"It tells me we have the best in Falls Township," the VFW representative said before giving the awards.
